The challenges of scaling fibre-to-fibre recycling

‎Regularly, our Secretary General Lutz Walter shares his insights and knowledge through his blogposts, covering a wide range of topics related to textile sustainability and innovation. Follow his blog to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges that the textile industry is facing today.

"If we break down the 1.1 million of non-reusable textile waste potentially available [annually] for fibre-to-fibre recycling and assume that mechanical recycling will never reach any significant share of post-consumer waste management, we have about 330,000 tons of pure cellulosic fibre waste and 120,000 tons of pure polyester waste available for chemical or thermo-mechanical recycling annually across the EU, maybe a little more if some of the recycling processes can handle small fractions of other fibre contaminants such as elastane. Is that a lot?"

The textile industry's transformation towards circularity is a topic of utmost importance, and in last blogpost, our Secretary General Lutz Walter deep dives into the concept of fibre-to-fibre recycling and its complexities.

Join the conversation and explore the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead as we create a circular textile economy.
