SmartX - Winners First Call

The SmartX team is happy to announce the 9 funded projects of the first open call. These projects were selected by a committee of 12 external experts out of a total of 35 applications. The total 700,000 € of grant money of the first call will be distributed among 16 SMEs from 8 different European countries.


The SmartX team is happy to announce the 9 funded projects of the first open call. These projects were selected by a committee of 12 external experts out of a total of 35 applications. The total 700,000 € of grant money of the first call will be distributed among 16 SMEs from 8 different European countries.
Here is a brief summary of the 9 projects which have started in June 2020 and are expected to end between May and August 2021.

Airbag Jeans - a project composed of 4 different SME's (Airbag Inside, Avilar, Detect Technologies from Sweden and Monlid from Italy). The goal of the project is to produce jeans with an integrated airbag function to prevent leg injuries, especially in motorcycle accidents.

Sweat Monitoring T-shirt - a project composed of 3 different SME's (Biometrica, Staff Jersey from Italy, and Worldklaas from Belgium). Their solution is a wearable real-time monitoring system of sweat and salts loss, based on an innovative biosensor, directly made on textile fibres. This innovative device performs an electrochemical analysis of the sweat in real-time. Focused on sports applications, especially for endurance athletes.

Dynaback T-shirt - a project of 2 SME's from Bulgaria and Germany (Dynaback and Amohr). The Dynaback project aims at developing a smart garment, to help prevent back pain and musculoskeletal disease in workers lifting weights in warehouses, construction, etc. The garment identifies and reduces bad movements of the spine by providing an early warning of back issues and triggering healthy movement habits.

Textile ECG Solution for long-term Monitoring - a project composed of 2 SME's Nathlos (Switzerland) and Zimmermann (Germany). The project will bring a medical textile Electrocardiogram (ECG) carrier for continuous long-term monitoring of cardiac activity to the market. Unlike gel electrodes, this textile ECG solution can be worn without creating skin irritation for up to several weeks.

Bodee project led by a single SME Comftech from Italy. The project is focused on 2 markets: newborns monitoring in hospitals, during the crucial skin-to-skin time and during their whole 1st day of life, and baby monitoring at home. The product conceived for hospitals is expected to meet the growing clinical demand for early identifying life-threatening arrhythmogenic disorders.

Seat Mat, single SME Sensing Tex from Spain. The project will develop a smart Seating Mat as an assessment tool for healthcare purposes with an API for pressure ulcer prevention of wheelchair users as the main focus.

ICRS system, a single SME project led by HeeTee Baby from Spain developing a smart baby carrycot able to monitor physiological parameters of the baby/infant and provide an alert whenever those parameters are out of recommended health thresholds.

Wolk a single SME project from the Netherlands. Wolk aims to develop a line of smart airbag belts that are worn around the hip. The device will prevent hip fractures and other injuries in case of a fall and especially destined to elderly people whether living at home or at elderly homes.

Moca-Ba a single SME project from Kinfinity, Germany which has developed a new textile sensor that can be integrated into any kind of clothing. Moca-Ba is focused on the integration of this sensor into physiotherapy and sports clothing to analyse critical data during and after training.

The 2nd SmartX call is currently open, interested SME applicants are invited to register and submit an expression of interest until 4 September. The full applications have to be handed in by 2 October. For more info & community registration visit www.smartx-europe.eu
