Day 1: Project Updates and Regional Insights
The two-day meeting kicked off with an overview of the project’s progress. Partners reviewed the first maps developed from the regional profiles, offering valuable insights into local contexts, infrastructure, and material requirements needed for efficient recycling and sorting. Additionally, the consortium discussed the characterisation of samples, a crucial step in refining methodologies and driving the project forward.
Day 2: Workshops on Regional Pilots and Key Challenges
On the second day, a series of interactive workshops were held, focusing on the specific challenges of establishing the four regional pilots. Partners explored the unique needs and complexities of each region: Grenoble-Alpes Métropole, Berlin, Prato, and Catalonia while discussing priorities for developing a simulation tool to optimise feedstock.
Other workshop covered key project areas, such as:
- Mineral textile profiles
- Sorting of multilayer textiles
- Resource scarcity
These discussions ensured continued progress across all project areas, laying the groundwork for future success.
Day 3: Visit to the United Repair Centre
Following the General Assembly, the consortium had the opportunity to visit the United Repair Centre, hosted by project partner Circle Economy. The visit began with informative presentations:
- Circle Economy discussed their initiatives supporting businesses in adopting more sustainable practices.
- United Repair Centre presented their social and circular economy business model, combining repair services with job creation.
A tour of the centre showcased their impressive repair processes in action, followed by a hands-on sewing workshop where SOLSTICE partners learned various techniques to repair their own clothes and textiles. This practical experience reinforced the importance of circularity and sustainability in the textile industry.
